LandownerFirm’s Philosophy
Unique Personal Legal Strategy
The firm’s founding attorney, Trae Gray, takes a very non-standard and customized approach to those he represents.
At the LandownerFirm we don’t file motions or conduct discovery to generate hourly fees or because that is the way everyone has always done it. We only spend time on tasks that will result in a substantial benefit to the client. When we file a motion or conduct discovery, we make sure we have a very specific and justified reason for doing so. We also always encourage settlement and view trial as a last resort – while simultaneously always being prepared for trial.
From Stillwater, Trae worked for ClubCorp, Dell, Pitney Bowes, and ADT, before putting out his shingle in Coalgate. He has both an MBA and LL.M. to compliment his juris doctorate – experience in economics, farming, ranching, oil patch, and the Star Service attitude generated from the .com boom, Gray returned to his native Oklahoma to practice law.
Trae takes a very non-standard and customized approach to those he represents. We don’t file motions or conduct discovery for the normal reasons (to generate hourly fees or because that is the way everyone has always done it, etc.). The firm approaches each case with a customized approach and tries to only spend time on tasks that will result in a substantial benefit to the client. When we file a motion or conduct discovery, we make sure we have a very specific and justified reason for doing so. We also always encourage settlement and view trial as a last resort – while simultaneously always being prepared for trial.
Informed Client Driven Decisions
Client gets advice/information and client controls/makes decisions – always. Trae has seen lawyers (even lawyers who have represented him) push too hard for what they believed/wanted as opposed to advocating for the client. We will not do this. It is your case and your decision – always. We are here to provide the best information under the circumstances.
Client results always come first – period – end of story. It always has to be this way and if it ever is not, Trae believes a lawyer needs to find something else to do.
Many times, Trae will take a team approach to cases to get the best results for the client by leveraging the strengths of each team member (including using outside firms). He may decline a case when that is the best thing for the client.
Also, Trae frequently gets hired by both new and past clients to manage and oversee litigation – or to provide strategy or work product.
Nearly all of the firm’s new cases come about because of referrals, repeat clients, or word of mouth. Trae believes this is evidence of both doing what is right in how the practice is run and also a good business model (for both our firm and the firm’s clients).
We are frequently hired by other attorneys and judges. The confidence exhibited by our peers and former clients are some of the greatest compliments and drivers to continue striving to provide exemplary customized legal solutions to the firm’s clients.
