Natural Resources Law

From the oil and gas below the ground, to the soil, water, wind and sun above, precious natural resources make every aspect of our daily lives possible.

The property rights attorneys at the LandownerFirm are focused solely on natural resource law. That is, the laws that govern how people use their natural environment for economic / commercial and societal benefit. Natural resource law defines how resources can be bought, sold, leased, stored, accessed or otherwise used.

The LandownerFirm respects the rights of landowners, and those with contractual rights to natural resources, to decide how and when to utilize those resources. That can mean:

  • Capitalizing on the ownership of land through leases and contracts,
  • Fighting infringement upon one’s property rights,
  • Ensuring the preservation of valued resources for future generations, or
  • Protecting one’s right to enjoy one’s property in quiet privacy.

The LandownerFirm represents clients in Oklahoma and across the nation.

Our Natural Resource Lawyers

Our natural resource lawyers have the knowledge, background and skill needed to achieve nearly any goal, from drafting mineral leases to negotiating surface use agreements, from protecting and preserving wildlife habitat to handling class action lawsuits for those who have suffered illness or financial losses due to environmental pollution.

Founder and attorney Trae Gray is a landowner himself. Before he became an Oklahoma natural resources lawyer, he was a cowboy (among other things). Now he owns his own place. He understands the challenges and opportunities his landowner clients face. Trae is listed in Top Trial Lawyers of America and is a member of the Multi-Million Dollar Advocates Forum as a result of large settlements and verdicts he’s secured for his clients.

Another of our attorney’s completed the Sustainable Energy and Resources Law Program at the University of Tulsa, one of the most advanced energy, environmental and natural resource legal education programs in the nation.

Attorney Matt Irby has a bachelor’s degree in environmental science and a law degree from the University of Oklahoma College of Law. He previously worked with the US Department of Agriculture, Natural Resources Conservation Service where he saw how corporate interests can take advantage of private landowners. That motivated him to learn how the law can be used to protect the property rights of citizens.
